“If it’s meant to be, it will be” is a lyric to a popular song back in 2017. While Gabrielle’s interpretation of this quote is anything but passive. In fact, her career in tax did not come easy. It’s not as though it just came easily and, thus, was clearly meant to be. To the contrary, tax was originally a subject that she struggled with in her undergraduate studies. Possessing a level of grit that defines the Dark Horse CPA, these struggles created determination within her. She wasn’t going to let this get the best of her. In fact, she was going to master the subject matter and become a CPA.
“When the whole universe conspires against you in the pursuit of something, that’s when you know you whether you truly want it,” explains Gabrielle. “If you don’t, then it’s easy to quit and no one will blame you. If you do, then you know you’ve got to double-down and prove everyone wrong.” Double-down she did by passing her CPA exam and going to work for a Big4 public accounting firm in their tax department. Keeping her eye on the prize she found a position at Dark Horse that would allow her to dive even deeper into tax. Needless to say, that opportunity lead to her taking the position.
When not diving into the tax code, you can find Gabrielle playing with her dogs, adventuring with friends, and spending time with her family. You may also find her cooking, binge-watching something on Netflix or playing multiplayer games online if she’s looking for a little, “me time.”
Suzi Drennen is the most knowledgeable, conscientious, and responsive CPA I have ever known—which is why I’ve stayed with her for more than 10 years. She is honest, has always gotten back to me quickly even at the height of tax season, and has saved me thousands of dollars over the years. The icing on the cake is that Suzi’s easy to work with and on top of that, a great person! She and her firm are tops!
