Sonya describes her childhood as that of an “Army Brat.” But, for those that know her, “brat” is likely not the adjective they’d use to describe her. Born in Germany and moving around the world for the first six years of her life, she landed in Florida, where she remained until she left for her undergrad studies. Initially seeking a degree in Criminal Justice, she switched gears to Business Management, which is precisely what she does to this day for Dark Horse Principal Mary Pierce.
And as fate would have it, she married an Army guy. Suppose “Army Brat” is a child growing up in a military family. In that case, one could imagine that something more along the lines of “saint,” “hero,” or “patriot” would be a better descriptor for a mom who raised four kids, two of which are old enough to be following the family tradition of Army service.
For the past 16 years, Sonya has called Western Pennsylvania her home. She and her husband have what she calls “a mini-farm,” with plenty of room for activities. Together, they run a print business that makes custom clothing, a small business that gives her unique insights into the needs of the clients she serves at Dark Horse.
When not running the farm, spending time with family, pumping out runs of custom wearables, or serving clients in the areas of accounting and tax, you can find Sonya and her husband investing their time with the non-profit veteran organizations in their region. Or, you might find them cruising the countryside on their Harley. All hallmarks of a life well-lived.
Suzi Drennen is the most knowledgeable, conscientious, and responsive CPA I have ever known—which is why I’ve stayed with her for more than 10 years. She is honest, has always gotten back to me quickly even at the height of tax season, and has saved me thousands of dollars over the years. The icing on the cake is that Suzi’s easy to work with and on top of that, a great person! She and her firm are tops!
