Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life
— Dolly Parton
Widowed with kids at the age of 36. That may be the end of that sentence, but it was not going to be the end of Kim Miller’s life story, nor the impact she would continue to have on a countless number of lives. It would neither be the end of the impact of her late husband’s life. Kim knew that her kids needed her, and that the kids she taught needed her. And, that each day should be lived in a way that would leave no regrets if tomorrow doesn’t come.
After moving closer to family in Zanesville, Kim began the process of finishing her degree in accounting. It was shortly thereafter that her husband was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. For the next three and a half years, she continued her studies while substitute teaching and caring for her husband. Having passed 4 months prior to her graduation, she remarkably found the strength to keep pushing and finish what she started. She then began teaching preschool so that her schedule would match that of her kids, allowing her to shuttle them to all of their extracurricular activities. To say that her husband would be smiling down on her from above would be vastly understated.
After ten years in the classroom, Kim was ready to put to use the degree she worked so hard for. She knew that she had found the right place working for Megan Durst and Tim McLain (previously at McLain, Hill, Ruggs & Associates prior to merging in to Dark Horse), where she was able to join a team that would challenge and support her in her growth for years to come.
These days, Kim can be found behind a camera capturing the memories and moments in life. She is an advisor for Muskingum County’s 4-H program where she continues to invest her time and energy into the development of her community’s youth. In her spare time, she can be found behind the wheel of a truck hauling her horse and daughter to horse shows all over Ohio, ensuring the horse gets his treats and her daughter gets to live out her dream.
