"And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul."
— John Muir
For some, the mountains are their beach. They gladly trade sandy beaches for dirt trails. They trade sea level, dense air for the thinner air at altitude. One who has made such a trade without second thought is Dark Horse’s very own Richard Thorsell. The mountains he prefers are those a ways west of Charlotte in North Carolina.
Richard graduated with a double major in Accounting and Finance from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. These degrees ended up starting the journey that would lead him from taxes to technology, blending the two inseparably along the way. He worked in the tax departments of a large telecom company as well as a healthcare improvement company prior to entering public accounting, where he began the shift to technology within the firm’s tax practice. He calls it a crash course. His current boss would likely call it boot camp. Either way, Dark Horse is pleased to have his unicorn skillset on the team.
Outside of transforming and automating tax workflows, you’re likely to find Richard outside (pun intended) enjoying nature and volunteering to help preserve it through trail building and picking up trash. He loves to use said trash-less trails for hiking and trail running, as well as navigating to various rock climbing sites.
