Strive to be better than you were yesterday.
— James Gordon
Zailah didn’t follow her passion in life. Rather, she discovered it along the way. Growing up, she dreamed of being a writer or a journalist. It came natural to her, and she loved it. While at college, however, her hand was gently forced from penning essays to stroking a 10-key. You see, it was a dream of her parents to be accountants themselves. For one reason or another, that never came to be, but they were keen to see their daughter achieve this degree for herself. It wasn’t easy, far from it, but she persevered and obtained her accounting degree and her CPA license shortly thereafter. To say her parents are proud would be an understatement.
She began her career at a Big 4 accounting firm in their tax department. Taxation wasn’t her strongest subject in her undergraduate studies but the challenge of becoming proficient in it was enticing. Zailah is the type of person who seeks opportunities to grow and learn despite the discomfort along the journey. After a few years in the Big 4, she sought a new challenge in working for a U.S. accounting firm; Dark Horse CPAs. She is excited for this new chapter in her life and the growth that will come as a result.
When not challenging herself in her accounting career, you’ll likely find her on the road travelling with her band, Banda Kawayan Pilipinas (Bamboo Band Philippines), who play instruments fashioned out of bamboo and other indigenous materials whilst dancing. She’s been a part of this band since the age of 12 and considers them a second family. Among her many other interests, one of her favorite things to enjoy is simply relaxing at home, watching movies, and delighting in the comfort and coziness of her own space.
