Financial advisors and golf are like peanut butter and jelly…an obvious combination that has stood the test of time. Most aspiring financial advisors, however, become golfers during their career instead of the other way around. Jacob Montes went this, “other way,” starting out as a golfer and later endeavoring to become a financial advisor. In fact, he was a Division 1 golfer who won the Srixon/Cleveland Golf America Scholar award during his tenure. After college, he briefly chased his dream to become a professional golfer until he found an opportunity Dark Horse’s Matthew Poole to put the, “Scholar,” aspect of that award to work and positively impact people’s lives. It didn’t hurt that golf would be part of the job as well.
Jacob graduated from UC Santa Barbara will degrees in both Sociology and Business Administration. He’s quick to point out that he’s still a +3 handicap and regularly competes in amateur tournaments all over the country. It’s this drive to compete, to be his best at whatever he devotes his time and energy to that makes him the asset to the firm's clients and teammate to his colleagues that he is today.
When not serving clients or golfing, you might find Jacob on a yoga mat, practicing and teaching said discipline along with breathwork. This breathwork really comes in handy when taking one of his daily ice baths. On a Saturday, a Sunday, a Monday and maybe even a Thursday, you might also find him on the couch watching either college or NFL football. As he likes to say, all football is good football. And, the author of this bio couldn’t agree more.
