"I've been working with Sean Winkel and Dark Horse CPAs for the last few years. They've handled by personal and business taxes—and some bookkeeping/accounting—with professionalism, efficiency, and accuracy. Sean is a great teacher; he takes time to make sure concepts are understandable and thoroughly explained. I really appreciated that he collaborated with my financial advisor team every year. I've recommended Sean to several folks and will continue to do so."

"We've been working with Sean Winkel of Dark Horse for over four years, and we truly cannot say enough wonderful things about him! When we first found Sean, our business was less than a year old, and navigating the many tax nuances of a new business felt overwhelming. However, Sean kindly and patiently answered every question we had, always explaining things in a way that made complete sense. He has handled both our business and personal taxes every year since, and we trust him implicitly. Beyond simply preparing and filing our returns, Sean consistently goes above and beyond by proactively reaching out to recommend and discuss strategies we can implement to maximize our tax savings. We are incredibly grateful for everything Sean has done to support us and our business, and we look forward to continuing to work with him for many years to come!"
"We've been working with Sean Winkel at Dark Horse for nearly three years, and we have been nothing but happy and consistently impressed with the level of service he provides. When I first started our practice, my father was my CPA, so passing the baton to someone outside of my family was a significant transition. Sean made that transition incredibly seamless. After our very first year working together, I felt a strong sense of confidence and trust in his expertise, which spoke volumes. Since then, as our pediatric speech therapy practice has continued to grow year after year, Sean has become an essential partner in our success. He prepares both our personal and business taxes and brings a high level of knowledge, professionalism, and attention to detail to everything he does. What truly sets Sean apart is his proactive approach, he doesn’t just file taxes, he works alongside us to develop thoughtful strategies that maximize returns, leverage available benefits, and support both short- and long-term financial stability. Sean has become a key asset to our business and personal financial planning, and we genuinely value his guidance and partnership. I would highly recommend Sean and the Dark Horse team to any business owner looking for a CPA who is strategic, dependable, and deeply invested in their clients’ success."

About
It's been said that tax season is a sprint. But as tax seasons pile up, those sprints start to resemble more of a marathon. Fortunately for Sean, he actually enjoys marathons (and triathlons), so the marathon represented by tax season is just another day at the office for him. And anyone who runs marathons understands the long-term perspective of what it takes to prepare, endure and succeed. Sean has translated this wisdom to the accounting and tax advisory he provides to his small business clients.
And he started working with small businesses back in college at Dixie State University, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Accounting. During his studies, he became a consultant to small businesses, helping them create business plans and obtain capital. That seed led him to a local accounting firm where he continued his work with small businesses, helping keep them compliant, saving them money on their taxes, and providing deep insights into the financial performance of their business.
While not serving small businesses and their owners, Sean can be found outside and on the road with his wife (expecting) and their two dogs. Notable outdoor endeavors include hiking, kayaking, fishing, snowboarding, camping or, as mentioned above, the semi-regular marathon or triathlon.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
